Preschool matching games
For the color shape matching game for preschoolers print on cardstock and tape the 2-page gameboard together. Next cut out the shaped pumpkin. You are ready to play the shape game.
The board game features a farm in the autumn. Notice the red, orange, and yellow leaves on the trees, the empty fields as the harvest has already taken place, the barn hay loft filled with hay, and the hay bales laying around. The super cute happy pumpkin shapes are such a fun, hands on math activity for students.
Shape Matching Game for Preschoolers
For this activity kids will practice shape matching by putting the correct shaped pumpkin on top of the shape place holder on the pumpkin patch game board. I would encourage you to say the name of the shape out loud and point out the shape word as you place the matching shape on top.
The shapes included in this fun shape activity include: circle, triangle, diamond, hexagon, heart, trapezoid, star, rectangle, rhombus, pentagon, octagon, and square.
Shape Matching Game
If you prefer to save on ink, print the 1 page black and white game board and the 1 page of colored shape pumpkins. Cut out the pumpkins and put them in a pile. There are two ways to play with the pumpkin worksheet: individually or as a group:
- INDIVIDUALLY – Kids will pick a pumpkin and then find a pumpkin of the same shape on the Pumpkin Shape Matching Game. They will then color the pumpkin. Kids will continue working on shape recognition until all the shapes have been identified and colored.
- GROUP – Pick up a pumpkin and show your group the piece, Have students identifying what pumpkin shape you are holding up and color the appropriate shape. As for a volunteer to say the name of the shape out loud to the class. Repeat until all the shapes have been covered by the pumpkins.
Students can colour their pumpkin patch coloring page with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
