Are you ready for dental health month? We are super excited in this house. Learning about dental health is not only fine but it is important for the future health of our children. This super cute, free printable Monster Teeth Counting Mat will not only help teach children about dental health but will help them with number sense as well, all while having a blast. Using play doh, toddler, preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten age children can make playdough tooth to count on the playdough mats. Teeth Counting Mats

These monster teeth are made with play dough which is a great activity to incorporate sensory and fine motor strengthening. Children will use playdoh to make teeth to add to the counting mats. This is such a fun, engaging prsechool counting activity to make learning fun. Use this dental activities with a fun dental theme to keep kids engaged while learning. Dental Activities

To try this fun dentist counting activity, you will need a few simple materials you probably already have on hand:

  • White play dough 
  • Dry Erase Marker
  • Sheet Protector or Laminator

Dental Activities for Preschoolers

We start by printing the printables. There are 10 mats all together, one for each number 1-10. There are 5 different colors of monsters, one color has 2 different numbers associated.

Each mat has a number, a colored monster with a big mouth, a place to write the number and/or number word, and a place to tally the number.

Since there are 10 mats, before we began, we made 10 balls of white playdough. If you don’t have white playdough you could use pretty much any other manipulative. Do you have teeth mini erasers, that would be great. White pom poms, that will work perfectly!

Dental health month activities

We used a sheet protector, because it can be used over and over with a dry erase marker. And honestly its less expensive than laminating. But if you are using this in a classroom or plan to use it year after year, lamination is suggested. The dry erase marker will work on both ways.

When you’re ready to play, grab the first mat you want to use. You can go from 1 to 10, or choose random numbers.

Preschool Number Sense

Have the child identify the number shown. Next, write the number and/or number word in the space provided. The next section is for tallying the number up. Then last, but not least, add the correct number of teeth for the monster.

Children will love exploring number sense, strengthening fine motor skills, enjoying the sensory aspect and playing with the monster and his teeth for Dental Health Month!
