Start by scrolling to the bottom of the post, under the terms of use, and click on the text link that says >> _____ <<. The pdf file will open in a new window for you to save the freebie and print the template. Â There is one American symbol per page with a total of twelve symbols all up.
Patriotic Symbols
Give your child one page at a time. After they read the word of the American Symbol at the top of the page, they will trace the word. They can then practice tracing this word over and over again on a separate piece of paper. Then you can read together a short paragraph about the American symbol. If they are still learning to read, they will need a little help. Point at the words as you read them to help them understand and learn to recognise new words. If there are any words that are new to them or they have difficulty saying, have them write the word out on a separate piece of paper, pronouncing it as they write the letters.
USA for kids
Finally, at the bottom of the page is a black and white image of the symbol. Children can then decorate this symbol with crayons, markers, or pencils, working on their fine motor skills, while trying to carefully stay in the lines.
Though this activity comes in black and white only, it is a great way for children to learn more about eight different symbols of America while strengthening their fine motor and literacy skills. For further learning, they can research the different symbols to learn more about them and possibly even visit them, when allowed.
