Watermelon Squish Bag Activities for Preschoolers
Looking for a quick, easy, and fun watermelon activities for preschoolers? This watermelon squish bag is a fun watermelon activity for children to use as a summer activity or along with a watermelon theme. This NO MESS activity allows toddler, preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, and first graders to draw, write letters, or squish the watermelon looking sensory bag. So simple, but so fun!
Watermelon Squish Bag
Do you use squish bags with your kids? The concept is so simple it hardly seems like it will be a hit, but it sure is! Kids love moving around the liquid material and watching the letters or shapes they draw with their finger remain visible. This is great for strengthening little hands, practicing making letters and shapes, and so much more. So as it is summer, and almost National Watermelon Day, we decided to make a fun waterelon squish bag. Adding a fun watermelon theme always makes activities EXTRA fun and engaging for toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, and grade 1 students. This watermelon activities are perfect for a watermelon preschool theme, to go along with summer book The Watermelon Seed, garden theme, or just a stand-alone summer activities for preschoolers.
Watermelon Activities
If you are wondering how to make a squish bag, it truly couldn’t be simpler. All you need to make this summer squish bag are a few simple materials:
- hair gel – any clear variety
- ziplock bag
- red food coloring
- small black button “seeds”
- green painters tape
Watermelon Activities for Preschoolers
So all you do is squirt hair gel in a ziplock bag and drop in some red food coloring. Squish to mix so the color is spread evenly. Add in your seeds which can be black buttons, fushion beads, or even dry black beans.
Now seal the ziplock bag without any air in the bag. Use the green painters tape to extra seal the bag at the seams, which also makes a cute rind part of your watermelon! Cute, right?!
Watermelon Theme
You can do this activity at a kitchen table, classroom desk, or on a window to let the light shine through your squish bag. Use the green painers tape to not only secure the ziplock bag, but attach it to the surface you will be using so the bag doesn’t move around on your young child.
For some reason my kids couldn’t get enough of making their handprints in the squishy bag!
The Watermelon Seed Activities
Try putting your watermelon seed squish bag on a cheery window to watch the light come through not only your impressions but the red hair gel.
Children will use their finger to make figures, pictures, shapes, numbers, or letters in their bag. This is such great practice to improve fine motor skills and coordination too!
Watermelon Day Activities
Kids are always amazed their creation stays around a little after crating it. Now use your hand to make a wiper motion to redistribute the hair gel and make a whole new project. I love that this activity is reusable and mess free! My two favorite things with busy pre-k kids.
