Puffy Paint Recipe
All you need to whip up a batch of this quick and easy puffy paint recipe are a couple common materials:
- white shaving cream
- white school glue
- food coloring – orange is what we used
- pumpkin spice seasoning (to make it scented)
- orange glitter
How to Make Puffy Paint
Mix together the glue, shaving cream, and food coloring until the color is even. You can add pumpkin pie spice to make it scented if you like. We like to add glitter sometimes at this point.
Pumpkin Craft for Kids
Put 2/3rds of the puffy paint in a ziplock bag. Keep the rest in the bowl to make darker for contrast puffy paint later on =)
Close the ziplock bag and use scissors to snip off the corner for the puffy paint to come out. This is the same technique as I use to pipe frosting on cookies and cake.
Pumpkin Crafts
You will want to use slighly heavier paper because of the weight of the puffy paint. On a piece of cardstock or construction paper pipe the outline of your pumpkin or fall shape.
Pumpkin Crafts for Preschoolers
Add more puffy paint and spread with a craft stick to fill in the pumpkin so it isn’t too thick.
Cut out a green stem out of construction paper and slip it in the top.
Fall Crafts for Preschoolers
Put the slighly darker orange puffy paint from the bowl into a ziplock bag. Seal and once again cut the end. The smaller the hole the thinner the line and easier to control. A bigger hole goes on THICK and quickly.
Use the bag to pipe the outline to the pumpkin and some details like the ridges.
October crafts for kids
Before the project dries, cut out silly, spook, or scary eyes, nose and mouth from black construction paper and set on top of your pumpkin. Press down just slightly so it sticks but doens’t get burried in the puffy paint.
Add details if you like like squirly lines, vines, etc.
Halloween craft for kids
We made dots around the jack o lantern to give the project some more dimmension and interst.
