Foam Rainbow Puzzle Activity for Preschoolers
Celebrate the arrival of spring with a fun rainbow activity for preschoolers! For this rainbow arts and craft idea you will be making a puzzle of sort for your toddler, preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten age child to make. THey will have to use problem solving skills to put the rainbow activity for kids together. This is such a fun spring activity for kids!
Rainbow Activity for Preschoolers
It’s almost Spring, which means it’s almost time to keep an eye out for rainbows! Rainbows are one of my favorites of the world’s magic. Rainbows are magic that can only occur through natural science, but it turns out looking like art! It’s nature’s art. This Foam Rainbow is a simple craft that turns activity, so you can have natures art right in your own home.Â
Rainbow activity for toddlers
This foam rainbow is cute and fun all on it’s own, but there are a few ways that it can actually turn into a learning activity. Once you make it, the possibilities are endless. To make this foam rainbow, you’ll need:
- Foam sheets: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue & Purple
- Scissors
- Pen/PencilÂ
Rainbow activity for Kids
Start by cutting the purple first. It is the largest rainbow arch. We made it about ¾ an inch in thickness. Cut that and then put that arch on the blue sheet of foam. Trace the inside of the purple arch onto the blue piece of foam. Then using that tracing mark as a guide to cut a ¾ inch thick blue arch.
Continue this process, using the last arch as the template to trace. So for instance, the purple is traced onto the blue. The blue is traced onto the green. The green is traced on the yellow. Yellow is traced on the orange. And finally, the orange is traced on the red. Then you have a full rainbow.Â
Rainbow Puzzle
Now comes the fun part. This foam rainbow set can easily become a puzzle. You can spread the pieces out on the table and ask your child to put them in order. This can be seen as putting it in order based on size or the actual colors of the rainbow in order.
You can write the letters of your child’s name and ask them to put it in order. You could do like we did and put numbers. There are six different colors in the rainbow, so we did numbers 1-6. It is an easy way to practice just a few numbers.Â
You can also use sticky foam, and use the same process and at the end, pull the sticky off and ask your child to put it in order on a piece of cardstock or even a canvas. This is such a simple activity and can be used in so many different ways.Â
