Scented Lemonade Playdough Recipe for Summer
Nothing says summer like a big refreshing glass of lemonade. This summer activity for kids uses that fun lemon smell in batch of easy-to-make lemonade playdough. This lemon playdough recipe is quick and easy for toddler, preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, first grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd graders to play with. You will love this playdoh recipe for children!
Lemonade Playdough
Sensory play is important for young kids. Research shows that sensory play helps build nerve connections in your child’s brain which allows your child to do more complex learning tasks. Sensory play also supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. Plus, kids just love smelling, squishing, and manipulating substances – especially play dough. This playdough recipe is not only great for sensory development, but for strengthening hand muscles with a fun summer activity for preschoolers, toddlers, kindergartners, grade 1, and grade 2 students. The fruity lemon scent of this lemonade playdough is sure to delight your kids. As they roll the play doh they will enjoy the refreshing lemony smell and the bright cheery yellow dough of this lemon playdough.
Lemonade Playdough Recipe
All you need to whip up a batch of theis summer playdough are a few simple materials including:
- 1 cup flour + extra for kneading
- 3 packets of Kool-Aid lemonade (25 cents each at Walmart)
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup water
Lemon Playdough
Mix flour, Lemonade Kool-Aid packets, salt, and cream of tartar together in a pot. Stir in oil, water, and lemon juice.
Summer Playdough
Mix over medium heat on a stove stirring frequently. After 10-15 minutes, the dough will start to stick together more. Once it clumps together like a ball, remove it from the heat and place on parchment paper or non-stick surface.

Add in a little bit of extra flour if needed as you knead the dough.

Using little hand muscles to shape, roll, squish, and mold the dough is great for strengthening little hands.

Now this is not an edible playdough recipe, you woudln’t want your kids eating all that salt, but it is great for playing with as it has a WONDERFUL texture and will keep for weeks and weeks in an airtight container or ziplock bag!
